Bournemouth’s biggest-ever public street art project is revealed
Ambassadeur Art Gallery teamed up with Bournemouth Tourism to create Bournemouth’s biggest-ever public street art project on Pier Approach in the spidery-shape of one of our favourite superheroes.
Bournemouth’s biggest-ever public street art project was unveiled by the mayor and mayoress of the town at Pier Approach today (16 August) after they shook hands with Spiderman when he arrived on the zip wire to finish the painting with a final flourish of the paintbrush.
The project took several months in planning and began on Monday this week with Ambassadeur Art’s resident artists, Iain Alexander and Dairo Vargas working with local street artist, Miroslav Lucan, chalking out the design in the morning. Students from the Arts University Bournemouth joined the artists all day on Tuesday to help with the painting.
This new piece of street art for Bournemouth’s busiest tourist spot has been designed with families in mind and depicts a giant superhero holding an ice cream.
Jon Weaver, head of marketing and events for Bournemouth Tourism commented: “For Bournemouth, the whole project has been a huge success from start to finish. It’s been great for us to work with the Arts University and Ambassadeur Art Gallery on such a fun installation. There was a holiday atmosphere at this morning’s launch, with children and adults coming down to Pier Approach in their superhero costumes and we hope that locals and tourists alike will continue to enjoy this brilliant piece of street art in the last weeks of the summer season.”
