Dorset-based cabinet maker, Simon Owens is calling on residents and businesses in Dorset and the New Forest to help him raise £10,000 by 6 May to clean up the locality. He is asking people to donate as much as they can through Crowdfunding, a social fundraising website, to enable him to single-handedly embark on a three month mission as ‘The Professional Litter Picker’ to reduce the amount of rubbish that is scattered in the area.
Simon explains: “The amount of litter that lines our roadsides, pollutes our rivers and kills our wildlife is shocking, recently I collected 1,100 aluminium cans in 16 hours around Dorset and the New Forest. The aim of this project is to improve the look of our beautiful landscape, but most importantly to ask people to please stop littering. The consequences of dumping waste and throwing cans from car windows are much deeper than just being unsightly. The clock is ticking to raise enough money, so I really hope my campaign resonates with people and that they will give as much as they can to make this possible.”
Simon has raised £1,520 so far, but if the £10,000 target is reached by the 6 May, he will express his thanks to supporters by clearing up areas on behalf of those who donate.
