The Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF) has received a generous donation of over £6,000 from customers and staff of local NatWest branches.
Located from Poole to New Milton, 12 branches of the bank chose the DCCF as their charity of the year for 2016 and organised fundraising events including dress down days. Area manager Mike Lomer even ran the Bournemouth Marathon, with all proceeds going to the charity.
DCCF was started by Eve Went, Pam Jeffries and Leslie-May Harrison from Poole in 2012 and gives grants to cancer patients to pay for everything from transport costs to and from hospital, to childcare, much needed short breaks and even household bills.
The charity has also part-funded the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s new therapeutic garden; paid for a chill out room for teenage cancer patients at Poole Hospital and also funded the refurbishment and first year’s running costs of Wessex Cancer Trust’s new, mobile counselling vehicle, the Betty Bus.
Mike Lomer said: “We are delighted to have supported DCCF and are pleased the funds are used to support people in the local area at difficult times. We hope that other local businesses will now come forward and support DCCF’s sterling work.”
The Poole High Street, Parkstone and Canford Cliffs branches of NatWest will continue to support DCCF as their charity of the year in 2017.
