Tribute: Staff and residents at Colten Care’s The Aldbury who held a poppy picnic to mark the 100th anniversary of Britain joining World War One
Colten Care marked the centenary of Britain joining the First World War by holding commemorative events at several of its Dorset homes.
Staff at Amberwood House in Ferndown wore poppy scarves while residents and guests tucked into wartime food including Woolton pie and corned beef rissoles.
Singer Fiona McKinley, dressed for the part in military uniform, sang a selection of songs from the First and Second World Wars with all proceeds from the event donated to the Royal British Legion.
Residents at The Aldbury dementia care home in Poole made paper poppies in an art and craft session before holding a poppy picnic in the summer house.
Bianca Turner, Activity Organiser, said; “Some of our residents wore hats and we played music from the past to give the event a more historical feel.”
At Canford Chase home in Branksome Park, Poole, the Bond Brass Band played for residents and guests during a centenary garden party.
