Bournemouth’s Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Team is to be Castlepoint Sainsburys’ charity of 2016. The charity’s work centres on raising awareness of breast cancer, while also highlighting the health benefits of dragon boat racing, which anyone can take part in, provided that more than three months have elapsed since treatment for cancer.
The Pink Champagne team was set up by a group of breast cancer survivors in 2008, in collaboration with the breast cancer team at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and an expert team of exercise therapists at the Littledown Centre. Men and women of all ages and any fitness level can paddle with Pink Champagne, following the recommended fitness training programme.
“We hope to boost their funds through various events and collections so that they may continue to compete against the 150 other Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Teams worldwide,” said Sainsburys Manager Paul Barlow.
