Autism Wessex will be hosting a new 33 mile bike ride challenge to take place on Sunday 8 September. It is aimed at anyone and everyone with two wheels, and will start from Dorchester and finish near Portfield School in Parley near Christchurch.
Paul Reade, Community and Events Fundraiser said: “We are really excited to be hosting a new event for the charity and urge anyone who would like to join in to come along and take part. To make the effort worthwhile we will be hosting a finisher’s event at the end of the ride with live music, food, drink and a medal giving ceremony with all finishers receiving a medal. Friends and family are welcome to meet participants at the finisher’s event to join in the celebrations of marking the occasion. In order to maximise this opportunity to raise money where it is needed most for the charity we would urge everyone to get sponsored by friends and family to raise extra pennies and pounds.”
The charity is looking for corporate sponsors to cover costs of the event and welcomes anyone interested to get in touch to learn more about the packages available.
Paul continues; “We are very grateful for the support of Christian youth group ‘Impact’, who will provide emergency recovery and repair during the event. They aim to connect with young people in many Dorset communities who are finding life tough, and subsequently seeking escape in illegal activities and anti social behaviour. The group has seen notable success and will be opening their Christchurch steam cafe as a coffee bar and offering bike workshops to local young people on 6 August.”
All proceeds raised will go towards funding the charity’s vital services to support the local community. The Mayor of Dorchester Councillor Stella Jones, will be opening the event at 10am.
