Coda Music Trust is opening its doors to unveil new state of the art music rooms to the public.
On Saturday 12 September, the registered charity based in Highcliffe, Christchurch, is holding a free open day from 1pm–4pm at the newly developed Piggery at its Music Centre and introduce all of the activities which will be new for the autumn term.
As well as existing students, anybody can visit the Music Centre during the open day and find out more about Coda.
There will be plenty of things to try out and be entertained by. Take a look around, relax with a coffee and some live music or try something completely new at one of the workshop or taster sessions.
There will be no need to book ahead, as workshops will take place each hour (on the hour) and ten-minute taster sessions will take place throughout the afternoon, including:
Samba workshops
Drum taster sessions
Ukulele workshops
Guitar taster sessions
Piano/Keyboard taster sessions
Harp or Cello taster sessions
Woodwind taster sessions
There will be a Blues Jam at 3pm in the Coda Social for any guitarists wanting to join in and learn the basic principles of melodic improvisation and soloing.
For the little ones, Gobbledegook Theatre’s MusikShed will be on-site for the whole afternoon to entertain the kids and get them singing and dancing along to some of their favourite tunes with bubbles and a touch of mayhem.
In addition, for the Under 5s, there will be a Classical Concert for Mums and Babies at 3pm in the Acoustic room.
Coda’s Rock & Pop Academy students are returning to perform some of their self-penned songs and Freestyle Guitars will have a pop-up shop, where they can talk about buying guitars and accessories and introduce some of their range.
Based on a former Victorian farm, Coda has undergone phased development of its buildings in recent years in response to increased demand. The disused piggery, last used for livestock in 1995, now provides seven new spaces in which to deliver an ever-expanding instrumental tuition and workshop programme, as well as creating a new reception area and improved landscaping and access.
This will be the first opportunity for existing students and the general public alike to visit the new development.
Coda uses music as a tool for personal and social change, believing in the power of music to transform lives. Unique to the area, it is the only music centre of its kind providing a range of music opportunities to people of all ages and abilities, with facilities dedicated to teaching, music groups, choirs, workshops, training, music therapy and music for health and well-being.
Coda Open Day will take place at Coda Music Centre, Chewton Farm Road, Christchurch, Dorset BH23 5QL.
