As a ‘thank you’ to residents for recycling their garden waste, Bournemouth Bororugh Council will be giving away free compost at Slades Farm on Saturday 2 May and King’s Park on Sunday 10 May.
Bournemouth residents, who bring their current council tax bill, will be able to pick up their compost on a first-come first-served basis from 9am until 1pm, or until the compost runs out, whichever comes first. In previous years, the compost had all gone by mid-morning.
At Slades Farm the giveaway will be in the car park on Ensbury Avenue next to the community centre. At Kings Park it will be in the lorry park by the Garden Waste Collection Point, accessed via Holdenhurst Road.
Residents will need to bring their own bags or containers totalling no more than 70 litres for collecting the compost.
Georgina Fry, Waste & Resource Projects Manager, said: “It’s brilliant that we are able to give something back to all those who have helped make our fabulous and free green waste collection service so popular.
“Our waste partner Eco Sustainable Solutions has donated eight tonnes of compost this year. This has allowed us to once again run two events, so we can spread the benefit, and the compost, across the Borough.”
The compost giveaway days fall either side of International Compost Awareness week (May 3-9) which aims to highlight the benefit of composting.
