Two groups of talented young performers from Stagewise School for the Performing Arts have passed their Trinity Guildhall Musical Theatre exams with distinction.
The students, aged between 7 and 18 years, performed extracts from two popular musicals, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and Parade in front of an audience including their examiners at Bournemouth’s Shelley Theatre. Trinity Guildhall, London is the international examination board for the performing arts, and Stagewise is currently the only theatre school in the area to enter students for the exam.
Stagewise Principal, Ally Cox, said, “In 2012 our students received a distinction for their exam performance of The Witches of Eastwick, therefore there was a certain expectation for our entries this year to be of the same standard. Our students have worked exceptionally hard with our Musical Director, Jillie Willcock and our Performance Director, Andy Brennan. We are so proud of their fantastic achievement, both performances were excellent.”
Ally founded Stagewise in 2000 at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, where weekly workshops still take place. In addition, Stagewise can be found offering workshops at locations in Christchurch and Wimborne, where young people learn about the performing arts from a team of friendly and encouraging industry creatives in a safe, non-competitive and enjoyable environment.
The school offers weekly acting, singing and dance workshops to children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 18. As well as term-time workshops, there are annual productions and school holiday workshops and they regularly provide students for professional theatre, film and television productions.
Students from Stagewise can be seen in the school’s forthcoming production of the hit Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical CATS at the Regent Centre, Christchurch from 4-5 June.
