Charity, Events & Entertainment, Wimborne | Posted on June 22nd, 2017 |
Step back in time and enjoy the garden, vintage teas, music, art displays and garden exhibition.
Wimborne in Bloom and the Priest’s House Museum Trust are holding a delightful afternoon event at the Priest’s House Museum and Garden in Wimborne on Sunday 16 July, from 2 to 4pm.
There will be a vintage afternoon tea, art exhibition and light entertainment, all in the beautiful walled garden of the museum.
Colourful borders and secluded lawns of this hidden treasure will provide the wonderful backdrop for a display by members of Wimborne Art Club, who will also be on hand to demonstrate their work.
An afternoon tea buffet of cream tea and cake on vintage china will be provided. Musical entertainment will conclude the afternoon for our guests.
You will be able to explore the museum’s Elizabethan townhouse. Its new exhibition, ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?’, will also be open. The exhibition celebrates gardening and gardens in all their forms, from planting and maintaining allotments to winning floral shows. Discover how gardens have developed from simple medieval vegetable patches to sprawling Georgian parkland. You can step back in time and peek inside a wartime potting shed, complete with seedlings ready for planting. The displays include artwork by Lys De Bray, a botanical artist and author based in Wimborne.
This event will be raising funds for the museum and Wimborne in Bloom. 2017 sees the 25th anniversary of Wimborne in Bloom, which started following a public meeting in November 1992. This voluntary run organisation funds all the flower towers and most of the planters around the town, together with window boxes and around 160 hanging baskets. The planting up of all these and the watering of them takes place throughout the summer period. The town has won numerous awards, including Britain in Bloom’s National Small Town Title (Gold Award) in 2012.
Tickets are £8 (afternoon tea included) and are available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116. Advance booking is essential.
