Enter the Rooster at Fernhill home in Longham
A colourful community party helped residents at a Dorset dementia care home celebrate the start of Chinese New Year.
Lanterns, fortune cookies, red and gold garlands and traditional Chinese outfits were the order of the day at Colten Care’s Fernhill home in Longham near Bournemouth.
Marking the Year of the Rooster, the event included dragon dances, a tai chi demonstration and performances of traditional music on piano and violin.
“It was wonderful. I’ve never been to anything like this before,” said 101-year-old Fernhill resident Norah Baker.
The dancers and musicians were contacts of Fernhill’s regular Saturday pianist, Bournemouth-based professional Mark Busell.
“It was a lovely colourful celebration that everyone enjoyed,” said Karen Grant A’Court the activities organiser at the home. “I’d like to thank Mark and our visitors from the Chinese community who came in and entertained us.”
