Bournemouth’s biggest fireworks party provided an unexpected bonus for sports-mad youngsters – free have-a-go sessions.
Undaunted by England’s Rugby World Cup disappointment, potential members of the next generation were put through their paces by Oakmeadians RFC coaches who ran a series of drills and runs for crowds of enthusiastic youngsters at the Littledown Centre.
“It was a great night, we were thrilled to be part of such a successful event and look forward to seeing some more boys and girls taking up rugby,” says Oakmeadians coach Gordon Horsley.
Local tennis and cricket coaches also hosted sessions on the artificial pitches.
“It was a real triumph for grass roots sports,” says event director Michael Callaghan. “The youngsters had a great time and the coaches got a chance to introduce their sports to some new players.”
More than 8,000 people were on hand on Saturday night to see Bournemouth’s biggest and best-loved fireworks party with three displays including the famous White Knuckle, the loudest display in the south.
“We had a lot of people travel from further afield to sample Bournemouth Fireworks for the first time and the feedback was incredibly positive,” adds Michael. “It was a great night for Bournemouth. Now the pressure is on to make next year’s event even better.”
