The new Dorset Road Safe partnership pilot scheme called ‘Dorset Driver Gold’ is starting in September. It will update drivers’ knowledge and improve their expertise and confidence on the road.
The scheme has two parts. The first is a theory course which is organised by Dorset County Council. It does not involve driving and is run by road safety professionals in venues across the county.
The second part is a practical driving observation. There are two of these sessions six months apart, to assess retained knowledge, skills and confidence. The drives are observed by an advanced driving instructor and will take 90 minutes to complete.
Emma Selway, from the county council’s Road Safety team said, “We’d like to reassure volunteers that this is not a test of your skills and knowledge but an opportunity for you to benefit from free driver training and for us to learn how successful the course is in achieving its aims.”
