A dedicated fundraiser who lost his wife to cancer has made his latest donation to the Trust’s Women’s Health Unit (WHU), which will form part of the new Jigsaw building.
Stephen Bargery started fundraising in 2007 after his wife Michelle died of cancer aged just 28. He wanted to give back to the hospital that had helped Michelle and decided to support the new Women’s Health Unit. Through various fundraising events and ideas, he has raised more than £15,000 for the new unit in memory of his wife.
His most recent fundraising activity saw him raise £1,000 at Wimborne’s very own Grand Prix, Wimborne Mower Club, an event launched by Stephen himself. As well as lawnmower racing and taking part in other fundraisers, Stephen has also acted as a volunteer at hospital charity events, including marshalling at the New Forest sponsored bike.
The new Women’s Health Unit, which will treat around 17,000 local women every year, will be a centre of excellence to screen, diagnose and treat patients with breast and gynaecological cancer and for families undergoing complications in early pregnancy, including miscarriages.
