The staff at Haskins Garden Centre in Ferndown have voted to support Alzheimer’s Society as their Charity of the year. The charity, which will benefit from all fundraising activities planned over the next 12 months, was chosen for the wide range of support it offers dementia suffers, and their carers and families, in the region.
Rachael Sweet, the Society’s Community Fundraiser met with the Centre’s General Manager Simon Morris to discuss events that can either educate or fundraise in order to enhance the services offered for local people.
“We’re delighted that Haskins has chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society this year. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia and as a charity we rely on the generosity of individuals and companies to help us continue our vital work. Money raised by Haskins will allow us to continue providing support and information to people affected by dementia in the local area. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones. We campaign to raise awareness of dementia nationwide and support from companies such as Haskins enables us to reach more people and make a positive change.”
Simon Morris said that the first event planned will be the ladies night in March when a fun fashion event is planned at the centre. The Halloween evening and the Kids Christmas special will also be dedicated to the charity. Plans for support meetings for dementia sufferers and their carers are now being made to be hosted by the restaurant.
