Anyone wishing to get rid of unwanted items or on the hunt for something can come along to two free Give or Take Days taking place in the area.
The events will be at the Somerford Alliance Resource Centre, 20 Southey Road, Christchurch on Monday 15 February and at Leigh Park Community Centre, Gordon Road, Wimborne on Wednesday 17 February.
The Give or Take Days, organised by Dorset Waste Partnership, are community waste exchange event – a chance for people to get rid of small furniture and bric-a-brac they no longer want and to pick up something they might need. Even if people feel they have nothing to bring, everyone is more than welcome to come along and take what they fancy. And it is all free.
The events provide an opportunity to reduce waste by reusing household items instead of throwing them away. This saves on landfill space, reduces fly-tipping, and also contributes towards saving valuable resources.
Staff from Dorset Waste Partnership will also be on hand with information about the local recycling service, plus handy tips on how people can reduce their waste.
Cllr Steve Butler from East Dorset District Council said: “We throw away far too many items that could be reused or recycled, meaning our landfill sites are nearing capacity. At previous events like these, around a tonne of waste has been saved from ending up in landfill.”
Cllr Margaret Phipps from Christchurch Borough Council added: “Events like this help look after the environment and save money for more important services. Why not come along and see what takes your fancy – it’s all for free.”
The events run from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Items can be dropped off from 9am with the last time to drop off items being 12 noon. Items such as books, toys, clothes, tools, bric-a-brac, kitchenware, small furniture, jewellery, ornaments, bikes and bike parts, and plants can be left but electrical items cannot be accepted. Dealers and traders will not be admitted.
