Hannah Fielding, who has cerebral palsy and requires 24 hour care, is getting ready to jump out of a plane and skydive on Saturday 5 October in aid of Diverse Abilities Plus, the Dorset-based charity that provides support to children, adults and their families in Dorset.
Hannah, age 23 from Bournemouth, is an avid supporter of Diverse Abilities Plus and wanted to give something back for all the great work they do. She spoke with her doctors and physio, and after a number of conversations, they gave her the go ahead to undertake a skydive.
Encouraging her along the way are her very close friends, Phyllis Edwards, the founder of the charity, and her daughter Wendy Barfoot. Wendy undertook a skydive for her 70th birthday in 2011, which gave Hannah the confidence to also take the plunge and raise money for Diverse Abilities Plus.
Hannah said:”I am extremely excited to be skydiving out of a plane. I didn’t think it would be possible because of my disability, but the doctors gave me the go ahead and I couldn’t be happier. It is fantastic to be receiving such support and encouragement from Wendy and Phyllis, and the whole charity, especially the fundraising team.”
In addition, Hannah regularly volunteers for the charity at fundraising events and also has a flexi-job with Diverse Abilities Plus, which involves popping into the central office and undertaking office admin and training new staff; giving talks at schools regarding disabilities; reading with children at Baden Powell School; and is a school governor at Langside School.
Hannah added: “I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at the charity and Wendy and Phyllis for believing in me. Diverse Abilities Plus is my life and I am incredibly grateful to the charity, and its staff, for giving me many opportunities.”
