Headteacher falls foul of the clippers at Tregonwell Academy in Bournemouth
NEWS FEED
When Tregonwell Academy pupils Luke Clark and Sonny Lewis staged a sponsored head shave in assembly even their headteacher fell foul of the clippers.
Year 10 pupil Luke, from Bournemouth, decided to give up his hair to raise funds for the charity Sarcoma UK, after his uncle was diagnosed with the bone and tissue cancer.
His friend Sonny, also from Bournemouth, stepped up and offered to take the plunge and together they raised a whopping £400 in sponsorship from their fellow pupils and teachers.
But there were more surprises to come. Tregonwell Academy Associate Principal Leigh Bailey-Pearce, explained: “I was full of admiration when the boys told me what they were doing, but I hadn’t reckoned on being shaved too.
“When it came to the challenge both myself and lead teacher Dan Shoebridge just couldn’t get out of it.
“I lost my stubble and Dan his huge ginger beard, much to the hilarity of Year 10 and 11 who were watching.”
Leigh Bailey-Pearce continued: “Neither Mr Shoebridge or myself have been clean shaven for many years and it’s been quite a shock – not least for our wives.
“Even so we are hugely proud of the boys and all those who have sponsored them. It was a great idea for a very worthwhile cause.”
Tregonwell Academy supports pupils with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.
Really proud of both you boys :) this a really mature and good thing you’ve done and you’ve raised a really good amount of money.
