Help transport Wimborne theatre group to Oska Bright Film Festival
Millstream Theatre’s film ‘Searching for Echo’ will be shown at Oska Bright Film Festival but funds are needed to help the group get there to see it.
‘Searching for Echo’ was made as part of a joint theatre project with Wimborne Community Theatre and will be premiered at the Oska Bright Film Festival (of learning disabled artists) at Brighton Dome on 12 March.
Wimborne-based Millstream Theatre – a company of adult performers with learning disabilities – is planning to go to the festival to see the premier of their film.
Funding has been received from Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club and Corfe Mullen Carnival, however, more is needed to help with transport and accommodation for the whole group and their support workers.
Millstream member, Shaine, said: “Please support our dream of seeing our very own feature film in its premier.”
The joint theatre project, Ways of Seeing, took place around the Museum of East Dorset (where Millstream Theatre is based) and focussed on several of the museum’s key objects, including the fresco found in excavations at the Roman Villa at Tarrant Hinton in the late 1960s.
‘Searching for Echo’ is based on Ovid’s Greek Myth, ‘Echo and Narcissus’, and devised by Millstream Theatre with directors Tam Gilbert and Tony Horitz. ‘Searching for Echo’ explores what happens when people feel unheard and unaccepted by their community.
Millstream member, Josh, said: “I think Millstream is important and worth funding because everything undertaken is of a professional standard and it gives people of a disadvantaged background in our community the opportunity to get involved with some exciting projects and you get the opportunity to meet some really great people along the way.”
Shaine added: “We have a very exciting opportunity and we’re really hoping you can help us to achieve it.”

Searching for Echo was filmed and edited by Alastair Nisbet.
Millstream Theatre is now working on its next project, ‘In Harmony – A Cabaret’, a multi-disciplinary production set in a community café, which explores the themes of belonging, friendships and an acceptance of diversity.
