The Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) encouraged local sixth form students to consider a career in the NHS at a special careers event on Tuesday.
The free open day saw around 100 pupils from 12 local schools attend talks by health professionals such as Critical Care Research Nurse Emma Willett and the Dean of Health and Social Care at Bournemouth University, Gail Thomas.
A range of information stands and interactive activities were also organised by staff from different hospital departments including pharmacy, intensive care, occupational therapy, medicine and microbiology.
Public governor David Triplow, Chair of the Trust’s Membership Development Committee, came up with the idea for the event. He said: “The NHS needs young people to train for the rewarding jobs that exist and at this trust we are delighted to help them at the start of their career.
“It will be superb if in the future they come back fully trained and able to be part of our wonderful local health service.”
Trust Chairman Jane Stichbury added: “It was very encouraging to have so many students attending the trust who were so interested in careers within the NHS. Their enthusiasm and support is much appreciated, and I am grateful to all those who gave presentations about their work, including clinicians through to the chief executive.
“It is good news for the future of the NHS that talented young people are considering a career revolving around safe quality care for patients.”
