The Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s League of Friends has donated £5,000 to the Philippines to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
The League fundraises throughout the year by holding a number of events, including the Christmas Fayre and coffee mornings. It also raises money from the sale of new goods on the League Counter in the atrium at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH), run by volunteers.
Rosie Haver, Chairman of the League of Friends, said: “We wanted to make this donation as we work very closely with many Filipino nurses, housekeeping staff and catering staff here at the hospital – we wanted to do our bit to help.”
As well as donating privately, staff in the hospital trust have also been giving money to a central fund and leaving messages in a special book for prayer, located in the Chapel of St Luke at RBH.
Rev Brian Williams, Lead Co-ordinating Chaplain at the Trust, said: “In total we collected £722.20 and I would like to thank everyone who has given so generously to this appeal. The book for prayer will remain in the hospital chapel for the foreseeable future.”
All the money raised has been sent to the Disaster Emergency Committee.
