Jump into summer with NCS project
Leaders are needed for Summer project with young people in Bournemouth and Poole as part of BCHA’s NCS (National Citizen Service) team.
Having successfully completed its most ambitious year ever in 2016, BCHA’s NCS (National Citizen Service) team is planning to raise the bar again in 2017 and is looking for 61 team leaders who can motivate and encourage a group of teenagers through a variety of challenges and team building activities.
National Citizen Service (NCS) is a government backed 2-4 week programme which takes place during the school holidays. It is open to all 16 and 17-year-olds and helps young adults build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.
BCHA, the Bournemouth-based specialist housing and support provider, is the largest supplier of NCS in the Poole and Bournemouth area, and last year it saw 424 people successfully graduate, having volunteered a total of 12,619 hours in partnership with 20 local charities, raising nearly £12,000 in the process.
The role of a NCS team leader is to take a group of youngsters through the NCS programme, helping to ensure they learn new skills, become inspired and make a difference in their communities. This will include developing a social action project to deal with a local issue they’re passionate about, and then spending 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.
Dominic Weir, NCS community engagement worker, said, “We’re looking for anyone who can motivate and encourage a team of young people through a variety of challenges and team building activities. As well as learning new skills that employers love, Team Leaders will be helping 15 to 17-year-olds to have an experience of a lifetime, while having a truly unforgettable 4 weeks themselves.
“This is an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills, especially for those interested in gaining invaluable experience working with young people, and NCS is proven to have a massive impact on young people’s lives.”
NCS brings together young people from different backgrounds and helps them develop greater confidence, self-awareness and responsibility. It encourages personal and social development by working on skills like leadership, teamwork and communication.
Each NCS course comprises of 4 weeks. This will be on a residential and non-residential basis. In return you will receive support and guidance from the senior team leaders along with paid training.
