Lewis-Manning in Poole has announced details of this year’s annual Light Up A Life event, which will take place on Friday 27 November in the grounds of the hospice which overlook Poole Harbour.
Light up a Life is the name given to a series of special community events that take place throughout the UK during November and December and is an opportunity for members of the public to remember loved ones in a special way.
The Lewis-Manning event is open to everyone, not just those whose loved ones were cared for at the hospice, and the service will be preceded with a candle lit walk from Sandbanks Café for those who would like to participate. Candles and lanterns will be provided in return for a small donation. Walkers will leave Sandbanks at 6pm and make their way along the seafront and up to the hospice to join the main service which starts 7pm.
Last year Leah and Megan Hastings the daughters of Lewis-Manning patient Nikki, who died last year of cancer aged 40, switched on the lights of a tree in the hospice garden. This year the tree will once again be donated by Continental Landscapes.
The service will include singing, prayers, poems and readings and will end with mince pies and mulled wine, after which the candle lit procession will return back to the Sandbanks Café.
Lewis-Manning Hospice is a charity that provides free care and support to over 700 people each year with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses through its Day Hospice, Lymphoedema Clinic and Better Breathing Clinic. The hospice also has 15 bedrooms which are being opened on a phased basis with plans to provide 24/7 care in 2016.
