Annette highlighted the fact that there are more social homes now than when the Coalition took office in 2010. She highlighted progress that had been made on bringing empty homes back into use and on neighbourhood planning. She stressed how important it has been to really involve communities in the making of important decisions that will increase the supply of housing.
Annette did argue that there is more to do. While she welcomed the limit on the housing revenue account being raised, she pressed for the borrowing cap to be raised for all councils. She also pressed for more initiatives to increase land supply.
Annette accepted that “there is consensus on tackling our real housing crisis, and on the fact that by tackling it we can contribute to economic growth and create important jobs and apprenticeships for young people. We can create a win-win situation.”
