A man who was responsible for a spate of burglaries across Poole has been sentenced.
Billy Banks, 22 and of Poole, was sentenced on 30 December 2015, at Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court for three burglary offences and received a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service and to pay each burglary victim £250 in compensation. He pleaded guilty to the offences.
The court heard that sometime during the day of Wednesday 23 September 2015, Banks had gained entry to a property along Monkton Crescent through insecure patio doors, searched the premises and stole cash and a mobile phone.
On Tuesday 10 November 2015 he burgled two properties along Bradstock Close sometime during the day. He made off with several items of jewellery and cash.
During the police investigation Banks was linked to the first burglary thanks to DNA evidence and later admitted the other two offences.
Detective Constable Christian Bryant, of Dorset Police’s Priority Crime Team, said: “Banks was responsible for a mini-crime series that resulted in a number of homes being burgled in Poole.
“A burglary at your home is a distressing experience and this case highlights the importance of residents ensuring that their properties are secure at all times of the day.
“People like Banks will target and take advantage of homes being left unsecure. One in three burglars do not even have to force their way into a home – they get in through an open door or window.
