Dorset PCC meets families at Westham Children’s Centre
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has praised drug and alcohol services in Weymouth, for their work in helping those affected by alcohol and drugs misuse. The PCC met staff and volunteers yesterday morning at CADAS on Melcombe Avenue and EDP on Belle Vue Road.
Martyn Underhill said: “I am delighted to see these services up and running. The outcomes that CADAS and EDP are delivering are important for people in Weymouth. I thank them for the inspirational work they do in offering people in difficulty the prospect of hope, recovery and a bright future. These inspirational projects are assisting people in their recovery journey and are helping them to move forward.”
Yesterday afternoon, the PCC visited Westham Children’s Centre on Radipole Lane where he met parents and children from the Westham area, who were attending a pirates party.
Martyn Underhill said: “These services are making a real difference to many people’s lives and are helping to build a strong community spirit. I am pleased to see first hand this remarkable work and just how vital the support of staff and volunteers can be to local families”.
The Commissioner also met staff at Weymouth Police Station and closed the day with a public meeting and surgery. Councillors and residents raised their issues on speeding, car crime and street drinking. Alongside the PCCs visits, the OPCC Engagement Team hosted a stand at ASDA from 10am to 2pm. They collected over 60 responses to a crime survey.
The PCC’s tour of Weymouth is part of a rolling programme of monthly community days across Dorset where residents can talk to the PCC about his role and raise any policing or wider community safety issues.
