“My time here has gone by in the blink of an eye. The Victoria Hospital has tripled in size since I first started here,” said popular matron Teresa North on her retirement from the Wimborne community hospital after 28 years of service.
“It truly is a wonderful place to work and all of the staff look after each other. I have had many happy times here over the years and I will be sad to leave,” she added.
Staff past and present gathered at the Victoria Hospital in Wimborne to bid farewell and marked the occasion with a vintage tea party.
The day was made even more special when Teresa received an unexpected visit from her footballing hero, former AFC Bournemouth striker Steve Fletcher, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
Teresa became a staff nurse at the hospital in 1988, and she was appointed sister of the Hanham Ward the following year. She made the step up to matron in 2002.
Hospital and Locality Manager Sharon Powell paid tribute to Teresa and her time at the Trust. She said: “Teresa has been an excellent role model and I would like to thank her for her professionalism. She is always warm and approachable.
“She will leave a wonderful legacy here at the hospital, not just in the shape of her daughter Tor, who has recently joined the Locality Admin Team here.”
Teresa will continue working two days a week until the end of August, but she is looking forward to spending more time with her family and having some holidays abroad.
Her replacement, Annette Barrow, who joins from the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, begins her tenure on 1 August.
