Robert Walter MP (North Dorset) is helping to spread the word about a newly launched Flood Relief Fund for Dorset.
Provided by Government and managed by local charity, the Dorset Community Foundation (DCF), the £32,000 Flood Relief Fund aims to offer practical, financial support to individuals, families or community groups in the county living with damage caused by this winter’s extreme weather.
The DCF’s umbrella organisation, UKCF, received the funding from the Cabinet Office’s Office for Civil Society, which has distributed the monies to ten different Community Foundations across various areas of the UK that were affected by the recent bad weather conditions, including Dorset.
Residents wishing to apply for a grant can do so via DCF’s website at www.dorsetcommunityfoundation.org or by telephoning 01202 292255 for more information.
People not affected, but wishing to show their support, can also make a donation to the Flood Relief Fund via Local Giving at the following website: www.localgiving.com/charity/dorsetcommunityfoundation
Bob Walter MP said: “If you are an individual, family, voluntary organisation or community group still struggling with the effects of the recent floods, please do get in touch with Dorset Community Foundation as they may be able to offer you some practical support. Pick up the phone or visit DCF’s website today to find out if you or someone you know is eligible.
“I’m grateful to the UK’s Community Foundations for agreeing to help connect local need with Government support, both here in Dorset and across the UK.”
Tracy Melling, DCF Operations and Fund Development Manager said: “We are extremely grateful for the funds received from OCS. The support provided will enable families to meet the cost of emergency accommodation, help towards any structural damage to their homes and help pay towards the finances of any interior appliances that were damaged such as fridge freezers and washing machines.
“We are also offering financial support to any voluntary organisations and community groups who are offering support and advice to those who have been affected. At a time when people’s lives have been turned upside down, the financial support and assistance will make a huge difference. If anyone would like to make a donation to the Flood Relief Fund we would encourage them to get in touch.”
