Bob Walter MP for North Dorset visited Oakdene Care Home at Three Legged Cross, on Friday 15 March to help celebrate Oakdene’s ‘Beacon’ status Gold Standard award. Oakdene received the Beacon Status award, the highest of three possible levels, in the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) for End of Life Care for Care Homes, on 7 March 2013.
Kathy Milsom, Home Manager of Oakdene Care Home and Acorn Lodge, welcomed Mr Walter at a reception in Acorn Lodge, Oakdene’s new wing dedicated to caring for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
Mr Walter was shown around Acorn Lodge’s facilities and met its residents, their friends and families, along with representatives from local businesses.
Mr Walter said, “It is great to congratulate Oakdene on receiving ‘Beacon’ status. A high standard of care can make the difference between contentment and misery for residents, particularly for those suffering from dementia, so my congratulations to Oakdene for setting the bar so high. Let us hope it encourages others to do the same.”
