New commercial vehicle production launches in Dorset with Easy Movers
When businessman Dave Wolfenden launched Horton Commercials Ltd on the Ferndown Industrial Estate in 1985, the ambition to create a £2m production centre to manufacture his own range of vehicles for general sale across the UK would not have seemed realistic.
Dave Wolfenden launched Horton Commercials in Dorset in 1985 to repair and maintain trucks and vans and, such has been the success of this, and the family-owned sister company Abacus Vehicle Hire, that Dave has created the company’s own commercial vehicle range.
“I have a great team of 24 people who can now competently manufacture a range of high quality, practical, well-designed vans in our new centre. Our experience in the van hire business has given us a wealth of feedback from both businesses and private hirers who note some of the impracticalities of different makes.”
The Horton Easy Mover range initially offers two different sized vehicle bodies. Options and configurations are plentiful and include side loading doors and tail lifts. Horton is targeting the mainstream market requiring payloads of 1400kg in either standard or high roofed box van configurations.
“We are not re-inventing the wheel but making it much easier to move loads on those four wheels and our quality and competitive pricing complete the package,” said Dave Wolfenden.
The cost of the fully warranted vehicles starts from £21,500 + VAT. Horton say that without any aggressive marketing to date they have already taken orders for 37 vehicles without including the demand from their own hire fleet.
