Start your healthy New Year with the Autism Wessex 10K at the private Somerley Estate near Ringwood on Sunday 4 January at 11am.
Becky Chalk, Community and Events Fundraiser said: “Please come and join us for a New Year run. There are two distances through beautiful grounds, a 10K and a 2K fun run, so there is an opportunity for everyone to take part. These runs are very popular so we encourage people to book their place as soon as possible.”
Ros Miller is taking part in the Somerley 10K as a training run for the iconic Virgin Money London Marathon 2015 after successfully entering the ballot for a charity place. Ros said “I was so excited when I found out I got a place to run in the Virgin Money London Marathon. I never thought I’d run a marathon, I love a challenge and now I am 50 I thought if I don’t do it now, I never will.
“Now I need to start training, I have done a bit of running in the past but never 26 miles. I am also recovering from a knee injury so need to do some leg strengthening. The other part of the challenge is raising money for Autism Wessex.”
Autism Wessex is the regional charity that supports thousands of children, adults and families affected by autism in the Wessex region to live fuller, happier lives. The charity relies heavily on donations from the public and fundraise for three vital elements; equipment and resources for Portfield School, to maintain the Information and Advice service and to be able to open a new quality residential care home each year to be able to offer lifelong, tailored care to people affected by autism.
Ros continues “I am delighted to be able to run for such a good cause, I hope to raise money and awareness for Autism Wessex, I love the idea that I will be helping to promote a better understanding of autism.”
Becky adds “We are very grateful for exceptional people, like Ros, who challenge themselves in aid of a good cause. We wish her luck with her training in preparation for the marathon, if you want to join Ros at the Somerley 10K please book you place on the Autism Wessex website.”
