A nurse from Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital paid a visit to the reception classes at Verwood First School on Monday February 4 to take part in a project focused on ‘People who help them’.
In the session, senior staff nurse Lorraine Hampton explained how nurses help people, answered their questions and demonstrated how to bandage a fellow pupil’s limbs.
The school children, aged from four to five, learnt all about the role of nurses from their average day, tasks and duties to the equipment used in hospitals.
Lorraine Hampton, senior staff nurse at Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital, said: “It was a pleasure to meet the children of Verwood First School, who were very interested to hear about the work we do to help the community in which they live.
“They particularly enjoyed the practical session and can now go home and teach their parents a thing or two about good bandaging skills!”
As a part of the project the young pupils have also been visited by the local fire and police departments to learn about their role in helping the community.
