Oakmeadians RFC Ladies team is celebrating a successful season by winning the Women’s NC South East South 1 League by a clear 10 points. The team has shown its dominance with a gruelling season of long distance travel, against formidable opposition such as Tonbridge Juddian Ladies, Jersey United Banks Ladies and Lewis Ladies in Sussex.
Oakmedians Ladies are no strangers to league success having won their leagues twice in the past, with two members recruited to the England Squad to play for their country.
Captain, Clare Tindall commented on this season, “I am really proud of the ladies and their performance this season, even though we have had a few knocks, resulting in the loss of some of our most experienced players, we have managed to keep our form and played some phenomenal games of rugby.
“We will continue to go from strength to strength next year with recruitment events tied into the Rugby World Cup this September that will hopefully bring new or experienced players to join our friendly family club at the ‘Bear Pit’ in Meyrick Park.”
Head coach John Ackerman added, “We really have had a season full of highs and lows, I feel that throughout the trials and tribulations the ties and friendships within the team have been strengthened which has translated onto the pitch when you see the support that they give each other.
“We have watched them grow as a squad and seen new players who have never touched a rugby ball in their lives get stuck in and come off the pitch with the biggest grins on their faces. As a coach you can’t ask for more than that.”
The ladies team is always looking for new players, experienced or not. There is a great team spirit and players grow in confidence but still have fun, demonstrating that rugby is not just a man’s sport.
