‘Outstanding’ report for Wimborne School
Allenbourn Middle School was rated ‘outstanding’ in personal development following a visit by inspectors in January.

Following an inspection in January, Allenbourn Middle School has been rated ‘outstanding’ in personal development and in behaviour and attitudes and ‘good’ in the other two categories assessed by Ofsted.
The report praises the school for being ambitious for pupils to achieve highly and develop their individual character and says pupils show “exceptionally positive attitudes towards their learning”.
Inspectors commend the school’s leadership team, saying they have created a ‘clear vision’ for the school which has led to success and progress in many areas.
The report adds that the collaborative work of the school’s trust, Initio, has led to rapid improvements in many areas of the school.
The inspectors were pleased to see that the school and the trust have developed a bespoke curriculum for the middle school setting which, in some subjects such as design and technology extends beyond the national curriculum.
Inspectors say that Allenbourn “accurately identifies” the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and helps adults to support these pupils effectively.
Careers information is made available to all pupils, and they meet employers and learn about the skills needed for future employment.
Ofsted praises the “extensive” range of extra-curricular clubs and activities on offer at Allenbourn and notes that pupil engagement is impressively high.
The school’s ‘rights respecting’ ethos means that pupils show a high level of courtesy towards each other and adults.
Mark Legge, headteacher, said: “The school community is incredibly proud of this fantastic Ofsted report, and we take great pride in this achievement.
“Our children have worked so very hard to ensure that our school is one that our community can be proud of, and they should be congratulated for their superb attitudes to learning and exemplary conduct.
“I am also very grateful to all our staff, who have worked incredibly hard to ensure that Allenbourn Middle School is a place where pupils can flourish and achieve their full potential.
“I would like to thank all our parents and carers for their support of the school and their commitment to ensuring that pupils come to school with such positive attitudes towards their learning.”
Liz West, CEO of Initio Learning Trust, said: “This is an excellent Ofsted report which highlights that we are delivering educational excellence and outstanding opportunities for pupils at Allenbourn Middle School.
“We were very pleased that the inspectors recognised the collaboration between the school and the trust in bringing about rapid improvement and we will continue to support Allenbourn as it builds on this impressive success.”
