The countdown is already underway to this year’s P1 Bournemouth Grand Prix of the Sea in early September, which will be the Grand Finale to the five-venue P1 SuperStock and AquaX national championships, and P1 will be unveiling its plans at a special event at the Hallmark Hotel West Cliff this Thursday evening (14 April).
This will be the third year that Bournemouth has hosted the marine motorsport festival, a double bill of powerboat racing and jet ski action supported by the Bournemouth Coastal BID, and local dignitaries, businesses and the media will be given a preview of the two-day event and the commercial opportunities it offers.
P1 Chief Operating Officer, Robert Wicks said: “Bournemouth has become known internationally for its free festivals and events all year round, and it has shown that people are attracted by events like our own that are professionally staged and have broad appeal. Sports tourism has been an integral part of our business model since we started racing in 2003 and we are very much aware of the power of effective partnerships in this fast-growing sector of the travel and tourism industry in terms of attracting visitors, boosting the local economy and raising the profile of host venues. Our partnership with the Coastal BID is a key element in our wider event strategy and our race weekend aims to introduce a new range of visitors to all that Bournemouth has to offer.”
Guests on Thursday will be welcomed by Paul Clarke, Chairman of Bournemouth Coastal BID, who commented: “We are proud to support the P1 Championships and Bournemouth seafront is the perfect setting for this race weekend that will be the climax to P1’s UK season. We are looking forward to welcoming back the P1 fleet of twelve powerboats and more than forty jet ski riders for a memorable weekend of sporting action for all the family to enjoy. More than 20,000 spectators are expected to watch the racing and displays over the two days and, with the event receiving a significant amount of national and international coverage, it presents a range of exciting business opportunities for local companies.”
Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr John Adams presented the trophies to the Grand Prix of the Sea winners and national champions last year and he added: “As the UK’s most eventful town, we are delighted to host this fantastic free event for a third year and thank P1 for choosing the country’s premier resort to stage its season finale.”
