A Ferndown care home residents have said a fond farewell to a therapy visitor from the charity Caring Canines.
Steph Bradshaw and her eight-year-old dog Hannah, a Swedish Vallhund, has been visiting Colten Care’s Amberwood House every fortnight since 2010.
She has become a regular friendly face at the Ringwood Road home while Hannah is treated by residents as something of a celebrity.
Now Steph has stepped down from the role, to be replaced by Toni Clarke and her eight-year-old crossbreed Cockashon called Willow.
Staff and residents at Amberwood House marked the occasion by presenting Steph with a bouquet of flowers.
Neil Dominy, Home Manager, said: “Steph and Hannah are hugely popular with our residents and we’re sorry to see them go. However I’m sure it won’t be long before Toni and her dog, Willow, have won over the affections of our residents who so look forward to the fortnightly visits from Caring Canines.”
Sue Dennett, Co-Founder of the charity which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, said: “Our teams visit all the Colten Care homes in this area and it’s fair to say that the therapeutic effects of regular dog visits have to be seen to be believed.
“Steph has done a wonderful job at Amberwood House but we’re very pleased that Toni has stepped into the role. I’m sure residents will soon come to adore Willow as much as they did with Hannah.”
