Allotment plot holders in Ferndown have their forks and spades at the ready to compete for the reintroduced allotment prize category in this year’s Ferndown In Bloom contest. Up to 60 holders at the Longham allotments are able to enter and have a chance to be the first name on the new trophy and win £50 worth of vouchers from the sponsors Haskins Garden Centres.
Ferndown In Bloom’s Chairman, Cllr Jean Read, says that the competitors have until 31 August to prepare and plant their allotments ready for judging: “As the town’s allotments were only taken over by the council in November last year, it’s great to have the chance to encourage and reward the hard work put in. Someone here will be digging their way to victory.”
Simon Morris, General Manager at Haskins, said that with the growing interest in Grow Your Own vegetables and fruit planting, there is every chance that even the Best Garden Category winner could contain a fruit and veg patch.
