Hampshire Police are appealing to the public to keep well clear of two unexploded shells that have disappeared from Hurst Spit in Milford-on-Sea after being found their last night. The shells had been cordoned off and plans were made for an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to attend the site this morning.
One of the shells has been assessed as unstable and potentially dangerous, so it needs to be found as soon as possible.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said, “Were you walking on the beach early this morning? Did you see the shells or do know where they have gone?
“If you have any information about where the shells are, please contact us on 101, quoting incident 996 of today’s date.
“If you see the shells you should not go near them. Stand as far away as possible and call us immediately.”
This post was edited on 3 April 2017: Hampshire Constabulary has cancelled this appeal following the discovery that the shells had been returned to the sea by a member of the public in an area not regularly used by bathers.
