The Panel will meet to review the Commissioner’s precept proposal for 2014/15.
The public meeting will take place at 10am at County Hall, Dorchester and will be broadcast live online at http://webcasting.dorsetforyou.com/core/
Dorset PCC Martyn Underhill said: “This is an important meeting as I will be laying out my plans for a 1.96% increase in the policing precept for Dorset. It will help people understand how decisions relating to council tax are made and the role that the Panel plays in setting the budget. Openness, transparency and accountability is key to my work and I encourage people to watch the debate online.”
The Commissioner is proposing a 1.96% precept rise for 2014/15, which equates to a 7 pence weekly increase or, a rise from £183.51 to £187.11 annually, for a band D household.
This will enable investment in the following priorities for the benefit of Dorset residents.
- Police Officer Recruitment – 16 new officers.
- 300 body-worn videos (body cams) for officers across Dorset, to increase accountability, public confidence, lead to more convictions and capture the atmosphere in Domestic Violence cases.
- A local cyber crime awareness campaign.
- 7 rural community vehicles – to increase visibility and access to rural communities.
