Poole midwives feature in virtual choir
Two midwives from Poole Hospital featured in a choir to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife on 5 May.
Jillian Ireland, who is the lead professional midwifery advocate, and Jane Morley-Smith, midwife, took part in #IDM20, a virtual choir with the aim of spreading a little hope, sunshine, smiles and happiness during these difficult times of COVID19.
Jill and Jane have also sung together in the New Bourne Choir formed for staff wellbeing in 2012,
Jillian helped to coordinate the project, which she says saw people taking themselves out of their comfort zone to do their part alone in their homes. The son of one of the ambassadors, a professional musician, worked to a very tight turnaround to produce the finished video.
Jillian said, “The hastily assembled choir achieved this without any rehearsals, showing what midwives can rise to on this and every special day in maternity care. Jane and I really enjoyed taking part and we are happy that it shares a sense of hope in these difficult times for families and NHS colleagues alike.”
The choir, which is made up of 32 midwives from all seven regions of the country, includes student midwives, midwives from various ethnic backgrounds, midwives from other parts of the world working in our NHS, male midwives, specialist midwives, midwifery lecturers, front line midwives currently working clinically during the COVID19 Pandemic as well as senior midwives and system leaders.
