Poole Museum will join over 1,400 museums and galleries from over 50 countries across the world on Twitter next week for the second annual #MuseumWeek, a project that will connect people to artwork, culture, history and science in new and interactive ways.
#MuseumWeek takes place from 23-29 March and gives Twitter users direct and access to some of Europe’s leading museums and the people behind them in 140-character bursts.
@PooleMuseum joins organisations already signed up including the Science Museum (@sciencemuseum), the Royal Academy of Arts (@royalacademy) and the Victoria and Albert Museum (@V_and_A), as well as museums and galleries across Europe and as far away as Australia and South America.
Poole Museum and the Borough of Poole will join others by including the hashtag #MuseumWeek in their tweets for the week, meaning users can follow along on Twitter. Each day has been given a different theme, including #familyMW, #secretsMW and #inspirationMW.
Cllr Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Borough of Poole, said: “Last year’s event was a great success, with many people from Poole and further afield joining in to find out more about the fantastic work being done by the team behind Poole Museum. Museum Week is a great way to raise awareness of museums of all types and sizes across the country and the world, and I would encourage everyone to get involved and support our highly acclaimed local museum.”
