Following last night’s (Tuesday) Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting, Borough of Poole has agreed to support public consultation on proposals for new services that could replace the existing mobile library.
The mobile library currently provides a service to residents living in sheltered housing and residential homes, and to residents living in parts of Poole that are further away from existing branch libraries.
The proposed new services would provide small community-run libraries in outlying locations, and an alternative service for sheltered housing and residential homes.
Both proposals would be supported with guidance and advice from the Public Library Service.
The library service plans to consult customers and potential customers on the new services that would replace those provided by the mobile library.
Cllr Jane Pratt, chairman of the committee, said: “We believe the alternative services we plan to offer will improve the service reach of public libraries to local communities in Poole.
Particular care will be taken to ensure that the consultation thoroughly considers our more vulnerable customers and those living in sheltered housing schemes and residential homes.”
