A £2.3 million overhaul of the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s multi storey car park is due to start this month.
To enable the improvements to be carried out, the top two decks of the car park will be temporarily closed for public use from Monday 18 July until early November. It is anticipated that the car park will be back to full capacity during the usual shopping run up to Christmas.
During phase one of the works the recently refurbished roof top car parks Shoppers One and Two and remainder of the Dolphin multi storey car park will remain open for use and the Dolphin Shopping Centre will continue to be open for business. The works are to be undertaken by Concrete Repairs Limited.
The first phase of the repair work, costing £1.1 million, involves extensive improvements to the top deck of the customer car park. This will include complete re-surfacing works, replacement of the waterproofing system and the associated movement joints as well as replacing the lights with new columns and LED lanterns.
Julian McLaughlin, Head of Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: “We are progressing well with our co-ordinated programme of work to improve Poole’s town centre car parks. We have recently completed the refurbishment of both Shoppers 1 and 2 roof car parks and we are now focusing on major improvements to the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s multi storey car park.
“The work to the multi storey is in two phases. Once Phase one is completed then in coming years phase two will provide further extensive improvement within the Dolphin multi storey car park to a standard expected by our customers.”
John Grinnell, Dolphin Shopping Centre manager, added: “The Dolphin Shopping Centre is very much open for business and I want to assure shoppers that the car park closure will create very limited disruption to visitors as they will still be able to visit Shoppers One and Two and the remainder of the multi storey car park.”
