Thousands of voters have chosen the winners in a competition to find the best spring photo of the New Forest.
The seasonal photo contest was viewed more than 16,000 times and attracted over 5,400 votes across more than 160 photos, with entrants hoping to inspire people to treasure the coming of spring in the New Forest.
Photos of a beautiful sunset, a comical donkey and a great spotted woodpecker were among the prize-winning images in the latest edition of the ‘Seasonal Snaps’ competition, organised by the New Forest National Park Authority.
Photographers submitted their spring photos of the New Forest on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and three winners were chosen by a public vote on the National Park Authority’s Facebook page. A fourth prize winner was chosen by a judging panel.
The winners are:
- First: Matt Pinner
- Second: Steve Hood
- Third: Ali Lansley
- Judges’ Pick: Nichola Rozee-Burwell
Barry Rickman, New Forest National Park Authority member, said, “Matt’s photo really encapsulates the New Forest’s tranquillity and why it is so important to safeguard this special area. I particularly like the ambience and colours of the photo, as well as the calmness that it provokes.
“Spring is such a beautiful season, when the whole Forest blossoms with colour. The competition entries are so diverse and of such amazing quality. It’s great to see so many people out and about in the New Forest and capturing its beauty for all to see.”
Each of the four winners received one of several prizes, kindly donated by businesses:
- Overnight stay at Careys Manor with breakfast and dinner at their New Forest inspired restaurant Cambium
- Family ticket for the New Forest Tour
- Afternoon tea for two at New Park Manor near Brockenhurst
- New Forest book prize from the New Forest Centre
