A rare Parisian fashion doll, made around 1860, is the highlight in the next collectors sale at Lawrences Auctioneers, Crewkerne.
“It has been consigned for sale by a West Dorset client, who was given the doll some years ago,” explains Simon Jones at Lawrences. “This rare doll was made around 1860 in Paris and is known as a fashion doll. It would have been bought by only the very wealthy, as such dolls have always been expensive.”
The doll has a bisque or porcelain head, with glass eyes, closed mouth and pierced ears. It has a leather body and stands 26ins (66cms) high.
Simon added, “These early Parisian dolls are very scarce and they always attract a huge amount of interest at auction. It is amazing that it has survived for around 150 years and hopefully it will find another good home.”
This doll will be sold in Lawrences Autumn Collectors and Sporting Sale on Friday 18 November. It is expected to make £1000-£2000 at auction. For further enquiries about this sale, contact Simon Jones on 01460 73041.
