Remembrance Day concert 'Where Poppies Grow' presented by Dorset Police Male Voice Choir in Highcliffe
Dorset Police Male Voice Choir is presenting ‘Where Poppies Grow’, a concert of music and prose for Remembrance Day at St Mark’s Church, Highcliffe on Saturday, 11 November at 7.30pm.
A concert of music and prose for Remembrance Day will be presented by the Bournemouth-based Dorset Police Male Voice Choir on Remembrance Day at St Mark’s Church, Hinton Wood Avenue in Highcliffe.
A registered charity, the choir was established on 4 July 1995, with just six members, it now has in excess of 50 singers.
Chairman Graham Chambers says, “From these small beginnings, the choir has grown, not only in numbers, but also in reputation, with the quality of its singing and breadth of repertoire. The choir aims to promote male voice singing whilst providing enjoyments for its members, supporters, audiences and the wider community.”
Graham explained that whilst the choir has a number of retired police officers within its ranks, there are unfortunately no longer any serving police officers. “Notwithstanding this situation, the choir is proud to represent Dorset Police both within and outside of the county,” he said.
The singers have performed throughout Dorset and in many parts of the UK as well as in France, Guernsey, Jersey, Ireland and the United States of America.
“During the past 21 years the choir has helped raise in excess of £285,000 for local, national and international charities and through its concerts, given numerous young local musicians the opportunity to perform, sometimes for the first time, in public,” said Graham.
Led by musical director Dr Jane Oakland along with accompanists Lisa Timbs and Sue Stein, rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm at Bournemouth School for Girls.
Tickets to the Remembrance concert ‘Where Poppies Grow’ cost £10 and can be obtained from Mr Jeff Bloom 01202 431556 or Mr Clive Leonard 01202 886595.
