Dorset based removal firm Britannia Leatherbarrows moved first time astronaut and history maker Tim Peake and his family from Wiltshire to Germany when he was selected to the space programme. The firm said it is delighted to have helped in some small part with this historical journey.
Tim Peake became the first Brit to live on the International Space Station when he launched into space on 15 December.
Tim was selected as an ESA astronaut in May 2009 and completed Astronaut Basic Training in November 2010. He received Eurocom certification in September 2011, which allows him to be responsible for communication between astronauts in orbit and Europe’s Mission Control Centre. His trip to the International Space Station will last six months and involves a huge range of tasks. Peake started his career in the army. A major, his 20-year military career took him to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan before he became a commercial pilot and then an astronaut.
He beat over 8,000 applicants to become one of six accepted to the European Space Agency’s astronaut training programme, a selection process that included academic and fitness tests. Once accepted, he had to undergo further rigorous medical and academic training — a process that saw him learn Russian.
