The West Moors Safer Neighbourhood Team in conjunction with West Moors Parish Council and Synergy Housing have arranged for the relocation of the youth shelter on Fryers Field to the skatepark area. This was in response to community concerns about youths gathering outside the library on Station Road, while there were few incidents of criminal damage the perception was that they were causing a nuisance. PCSO Adam Fitzwalter said, “By engaging with the youths we were able to identify that the vast majority were there just to socialise with friends although clearly there were issues about the litter that was being left.”
Funding was sought to relocate the under-used youth shelter and at the same time install a solar powered light source in the roof, the move was completed on 12 March and the shelter is now in regular use. Since the move there have been no reports of gatherings at the library and the litter there has reduced.
PC Julian Humphries added, “Our thanks go to Zone 10 Synergy Housing and the parish council for their support and we look forward to working with the community in the future.
