An ‘exceptional and effervescent’ member of staff at a New Milton care home is in the running for a coveted national award, the results of which will be announced tonight (28 November).
Carlie Nicholas, Activities Organiser at Colten Care’s Kingfishers home, has made the final shortlist at the National Care Awards 2014.
Her category, Best Care Activities Co-ordinator, recognises those care home workers who make “an exceptional contribution to the quality of life, health and happiness of all the people they work with through the activities they provide.”
Carlie was jointly nominated by the relatives of two residents at the home. Their nomination praises her approach to organising activities such as cookery, competitions, quizzes, outings and parties.
Working with residents at a series of craft sessions, Carlie also helped to raise more than £1,300 for Kingfishers’ nominated charity, Honeypot, which supports vulnerable children.
“While obviously benefiting the charity,” the nomination reads, “Carlie ensured the arts and crafts sessions were also a chance for residents to enjoy a lifelong hobby or learn something new. She has an effervescent personality and makes all the activities she organises very inclusive.”
The winners of the National Care Awards will be announced tonight at a gala evening to be held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in London.
Presentations, in front of 700 guests, will be made by husband-and-wife TV presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford from the ITV lifestyle show This Morning.
