Silent Soldiers on parade in Ferndown
Two Silent Soldiers, representing the Fallen of World War One, have been installed in the Garden of Remembrance at the Royal British Legion in Church Road. They form part of the 2018 commemorations of the end of the ‘War to End All Wars’.
The soldier figures will keep a silent vigil throughout the year, taking in all seasons of the garden, which is open to everyone wanting to spend a few moments in calm remembrance.
Silent Soldiers are appearing across the country and can be fixed to buildings and walls and will appear, as the troops did between 1914 and 1918, when returning home ‘silently’. They can be placed on buildings, in gardens and fields and on roundabouts.
They are available to individuals (£100) and companies (£250 including logo) from the Royal British Legion with all profits going to the Poppy Appeal.
The ‘War to End All Wars’ marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War, which began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. By the time the guns fell silent, 10-million soldiers were dead and WWI had changed the world forever.

I went to Ypres 16/4/2018 to lay a wreath for my grandad who was killed at the battle for Kemmel hill 16/4/1918. The silent soldier tribute to the men of the First World War is very poignant. I am going to Ypres for the family poppy parade on armistice day 2018.
